A former NFL player thought it would be a good idea to stage a hate crime at his place of business.
Edawn Louis Coughman was arrested by Gwinnett County Police after robbing and vandalizing his restaurant in Lawrenceville, GA. Apparently he spray-painted racial slurs like “monkey” and the N-word on the walls Coughman also wrote the political phrase “MAGA” as well. The flat screen TV’s were torn off the wall.
A maintenance worker at the shopping plaza where Coughman’s business is located saw someone breaking into the restaurant around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The worker then called the cops. Officers in the area spotted a black truck without a license plate and pulled it over thinking it could be a possible suspect.
Coughman thought he got away with the faux crime until cops caught up to him in the unmarked black truck. They found several flat-screen TVs along with fresh black spray paint on his hands. That was enough for cops to determine that Coughman was indeed the individual who committed the series of crimes.
Gwinnett County Police Corporal Michele Pihera told WSB-TV that Coughman had already reported the crime to the insurance company.
“He had reported this incident to his insurance company prior to officers conducting that first pullover,” Pihera told WSB-TV. “Everything lined up for this perfect arrest.”
Coughman played in the NFL from 2012 to 2016, including the Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals.
