The next breed of “new” artists in the rap game included French Montana. Releasing mixtapes for years in New York City, French Montana elevated his game during the summer of 2011. Starting with his “Shot Caller” single, French Montana began a wave that ended with him signing with Bad Boy Records.
Immediately, work began on the long talked about album, Excuse My French. In the summer of 2012, French Montana released the first official single off the album, “Pop That,” featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and Drake. Despite the success of the single and the summer release date, French Montana did not drop his album.
French Montana recently talked to DJ Drama during his Atlanta radio show and he talked about his “Freaks” single with Nicki Minaj. Excuse My French then came up in the conversation and French Montana talked about the first week sales. The Coke Boys leader also talked about MTV’s “Hottest MCs in the Game,” which he missed.
