Many New York rappers have been touted as the “next up.” Among those selected, over the past five years, include Mims, Maino, Fabolous, and Vado. By 2011, most of these artists had fizzled when French Montana released “Shot Caller.” French Montana had been one of the biggest rappers on the mixtape scene over the previous four years.

However, in the fall of 2011, French Montana would build himself up, releasing new music at least weekly. With so much new music coming, French Montana caught the attention of many record executives and fans. French Montana enjoyed a growing fan base and a bidding war, which included Rick Ross, Diddy, and Jay-Z.

Eventually, French Montana would sign with Bad Boy Records and he has not looked back, working on his Excuse My French LP. While French Montana has been working on his debut album, Coke Boy Brock has taken his place on the mixtape level. However, fans can expect another mixtape from French Montana in the near future.

While French Montana is from The Bronx, he was recently in Los Angeles at the offices of Interscope Records. AllHipHop.com caught up with French Montana here. French Montana has been hard at work on his Excuse My French album, thanking Interscope for their support. Before he releases his album, French Montana intends to release another mixtape, Mac & Cheese 3, the appetizer before the meal. With fifty songs recorded, French Montana is going to use those left off the album for his mixtapes.

“Pop That” is the lead single off Excuse My French and French Montana has enjoyed the success of the song, which features Rick Ross, Drake, and Lil Wayne. French Montana announced he would be holding a “Pop That” contest.
