Since the 2008 release of Untitled, Nas has been out of the public eye. Nas enjoyed a brief return to the game with Damian Marley for Distant Relatives. Last year, it seemed as if Nas was going to release a new album. However, with the apparent issues with Def Jam, no new album came, but hip hop heads did have a dream come true when Nas collaborated with Common. In addition to their joint single, “Ghetto Dreams,” Nas released his own “Nasty” single too.

Following the release of “Nasty,” Nas announced his new album, Life is Good. As he began promoting, Nas revealed he may change the title of the album. With no set title, Nas promoted new music throughout the first half of 2011. However, soon Nas fell out of the public eye and 2011 came and went without any new music from him. Still, though, Nas worked with Common for the first time and collaborated with Rick Ross.

Nas is hoping things will be different for him in 2012. Early in the year, Nas has the momentum behind him. Recently, he released the second single from his upcoming album, “The Don.” The song has circulated the internet and it features a familiar voice. Last fall, hip hop was delivered a major blow when Heavy D died. The overweight lover opened doors for a lot of people, including Diddy, who has gone on to make hip hop history. When Heavy D died, a major void was created that will never be filled.

However, fans will have something to hold on to regarding Heavy D in 2012. Nas’ new single, “The Don,” which is poised to become a hit, features Heavy D.
