Hip hop has lost a monumental figure earlier today. Heavy D was one of the biggest artists during the 1990s, as he was signed to Andre Harrell’s Uptown Records. Many of Heavy D’s accomplishments have gone unnoticed, as few realize he helped Sean “Diddy” Combs get his start. A few years ago, Heavy D made headlines, as he had lost several pounds and had a slimmer figure.

However, a few months ago, Heavy D had put most of those pounds back on. Heavy D made his rounds, earlier this year, at a few hip hop ceremonies. Earlier today, Heavy D was rushed to the hospital in Los Angeles. The former Uptown rapper was pronounced dead at 1 pm today. Around 11:30 pm, Heavy D was found passed out on the sidewalk in Beverly Hills.

When help arrived, Heavy D was conscious and speaking with people. But, when he was transported to a nearby hospital, Heavy D died. Like LL Cool J and Will Smith, Heavy D had branched out of rap and into the movies. He co-starred in NBC’s short-lived “The Tracy Morgan Show” and also had a supporting role in Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence’s 1999 film, Life.
