Outsiders have had a lot to say about New York and the state of our hip hop scene. It is not easy for the outsiders to understand, but those on the inside know that the hip hop scene here is doing just fine. After all, New York is still the biggest media market and there are many people doing it on the grassroots level.

DJ Mel-oD is one of these people who is keeping the grassroots New York hip hop scene held down. Through his Drop on Top Entertainment company, DJ Mel-oD puts on the Brooklyn Unity Festival. Every year since 2011, DJ Mel-oD has put this event on with the help of the Hot 97 team.

Recently, DJ Mel-oD took the time out to give us a good conversation for Hip Hop Vibe and he explained how everything comes together. DJ Mel-oD explained he wants to keep his events based on the community. He also discussed his consistent work with Hot 97 for the Brooklyn Unity Festival.
