HHV Exclusive: Erick Sermon talks “ESP” and Capitol Records deal at Global Spin Awards

Rising to fame as a member of EPMD, Erick Sermon has worked with some of everybody in the music industry. His solo career began in 1993 with Def Jam, releasing No Pressure, and having singles such as “Hittin’ Switches” and “Stay Real.” Music like this came to be what “real” hip hop fans relied on during the “hip hop is dead” era.

Erick Sermon even had the chance to win over the mainstream, for a brief period of time, during the summer of 2001. A Marvin Gaye sample led to Erick Sermon landing a major hit with “Music,” which is now regarded as a classic. The album of the same title went on to be a major success and Erick Sermon released two more albums, React and Chilltown, New York.

Ten years have passed since Erick Sermon released a new album, but all of this will soon change. On the red carpet at the Global Spin Awards, Erick Sermon talked to Hip Hop Vibe for a brief minute. He spoke on the impact of the DJs on the hip hop game and then he went on to discuss his new album, ESP, along with his new deal with Capitol Records.
