Obviously, the emergence of Drake brought a lot of attention to the hip hop scene in Toronto. But, there are a lot of other people out there doing plenty of work, with JD Era being among them. During the 2010-2011 period, JD Era got a big break when he caught Raekwon’s attention.
When Raekwon began the Ice H20 Records movement, JD Era was the artist he built around. They had a couple of years where they dropped a lot of solid material. But, JD Era eventually decided he would leave the label and do his own thing.
Recently, Hip Hop Vibe’s Stranga The Great took a trip to Toronto and he met up with JD Era, linking up in his hometown, which is right outside of the city. JD Era did an interview with Hip Hop Vibe, explaining how he and Raekwon joined forces, before discussing the Toronto hip hop scene and his history working with Drake. During the interview, JD Era also talked about his favorite battle rappers and that scene.
