HHV Exclusive: Leon talks new film, “I Really Hate My Ex,” new music, and more

This winter, the film, I Really Hate My Ex, made its debut. The movie was developed by Troy Byer and stars some well-known figures in the entertainment industry. Actor/singer, Leon, has a prominent role in I Really Hate My Ex, on DVD and Digital HD April 14.
With an eye-popping title, I Really Hate My Ex is a unique journey taken by women to find closure in their relationship. What they did is something definitely in the realm of possibility, but nevertheless unusual. This made for a very interesting concept.
Leon recently took out time to speak to Hip Hop Vibe about I Really Hate My Ex and how he ended up having a role in the movie. Very open and honest, Leon said the title of this flick was enough to keep the people interested. After all, who doesn’t have one ex, male or female, that they have an unconventional history with?

How did you end up involved in the new film, I Really Hate My Ex? Troy Byer, the writer and director contacted me. She played on The Five Heartbeats and we’ve known each other for a long time. She wanted me on this film, I like her and I liked the storyline. I thought it was a fun ride and the people have seemed to like it.
Can you tell us a little bit about the new film? Yes, I can. A woman gets dumped about a week before her wedding. She is upset and distraught, because she doesn’t know why her man left her. But, she gets with her friends who also had breakups. In a moment of despair and a little bit of liquor, they come up with a plan. This leads to them kidnapping their exes and putting them in an RV to get answers. Women always want answers, but when they get them, they may not like it, but they wanted to know why their men left them.
What role does your character play in all of the drama? (Laughs) I play the role of a man who is married, but who has had this woman on the side for a long time. I tell her that I want to leave my wife for her, but as of yet I haven’t done it. She wants to leave me, but she keeps coming back.
Can you give the readers three reasons why they should check this movie out? (Laughs) I don’t have to really give people a reason to watch this movie. As soon as I tell them the title, they’re going to say “I have to go see that movie.” Everyone has some story or something going on with their ex.
Outside of the new movie, do you have any new music in the works? Yes. I am in the studio right now completing a record titled Love Is A Beautiful Thing, also the title of my new single. It should be out this summer and we can start touring.
