One thing about hip hop is when one area begins to catch flame, many artists from that area blow up. The infancy of Southern hip hop going mainstream came from New Orleans. Houston was the first city to break through, but then came the No Limit success, then Cash Money.

Atlanta, as everyone knows, became the biggest hub, but Miami also has a huge base. Then, since 2007, Baton Rouge has become a big hub for artists emerging. One blowing up, as of late, is Mista Cain, who has a lot going on right now with Tha Verdict recently dropping.

Mista Cain took time out from his studio session, earlier this week, to speak to Hip-HopVibe.com. He talked to us about his “Remember When” single with Boosie, Tha Verdict, and his local hip hop scene. Words to remember, Mista Cain for president!

Read the entire interview below:

So, how did you and Boosie link up for “Remember When?” We’re from the same city. So, when I got released, he reached out to me. We got caught up on the same type of charges, plus he got a song called “I Remember.” I grew up on his music, kind of went through the same things, so he was the perfect collaboration.

Why do you think there is so much beef, when everyone is winning out here? Man, I can’t even explain it. I hear it a lot, but I can’t even explain it. I just reach out and, if it don’t work, I move on. Outside of the beefs, we really are talented, in our area.

When it comes to major labels, what is your take on a deal? I actually wouldn’t mind dealing with a major label and having a deal. But, I don’t want to be working a lot for less. When you get a job, you have to work, but I just don’t want to slave. However, I do want to work, which is why I would want a deal.

Can you tell us more about Tha Verdict, your new album? Mista Cain For President! It’s based off my situation, dealing with my past life, introducing the nation to a new artist. Just showing the real and a lot of people don’t want to acknowledge the real. Some people don’t consider this new era hip hop, but my music is based on my life and my story. Nobody can tell my life and my story, but me. So, I’m setting the trends right now.

How does it feel to work so hard, finally gain fame, and have people who do feel you? It feels good, got one part of it done. Meeting people I never met, who feel my music. When you go towards our airport, you go to the left, but the airport is on the right. The left side is the jail house, so to make it from there is a miracle.

When are you going to get back in the studio and make the next project? I’m in the studio right now and we are going to go gold this time. I’m in Mouse’s studio, got a young producer, Chris James, Mouse on the Track, right now. We got a lot of stuff coming up, soon.

Where can people connect with you on social media? I’m everywhere, every streaming site, app, and all that. @MistaCain for everything.
