HHV Exclusive: Mona Scott-Young talks “Love & Hip Hop” success, backlash, and more

Six years ago, VH1 gave the greenlight to “Love & Hip Hop” and a new sub-genre was born. The brainchild behind this vision is none other than Mona Scott-Young. A longtime executive in the entertainment industry, she put her connections to good use.

Mona Scott-Young expanded “Love & Hip Hop” to several cities with spinoffs in Atlanta, and Los Angeles. These shows have allowed for new platforms for Juelz Santana, Peter Gunz, Stevie J, Lil’ Scrappy, Yung Joc, Ray J, Omarion, and many others. But, it comes with backlash.

During the Revolt Music Conference, in 2016, Michelle Madison caught up with Mona Scott-Young. The two had a brief exchange, where they talked about the successes of the “Love & Hip Hop” franchise and the backlash that comes along with it. Their conversation was quick, but very insightful.
