As a member of Lost Boyz, Mr. Cheeks rose to fame during the 1990s and earned legendary status. Back in the 1990s, Mr. Cheeks gained a lot of attention for his solo performance on the Lost Boyz’ single, “Renee,” which is regarded as a hip hop classic. But, this was not the peak for him.
Mr. Cheeks later came back and he had a solid run in 2001, with his John P. Kelly debut album. The album contained the hit single, “Lights, Camera, Action!,” which became one of the party anthems of the fall of 2001. Two years later, Mr. Cheeks returned to the spotlight when Lil’ Kim featured him on “The Jump Off.”
Earlier this year, Mr. Cheeks talked to Hip Hop Vibe’s Stranga The Great and he ran into the team again at the 2014 Underground Music Awards. This was back here in New York City, two weeks ago. Mr. Cheeks performed a set and Hip Hop Vibe had all access to it and got this exclusive clip.
