Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
A lot of mixtapes dropped this past week and Hip Hop Vibe was on it. There is a lot of talent out there, among these talented artists is Tiffany Foxx. Over the past year, dreams have come true for her. Lil’ Kim’s protege, Tiffany Foxx has made major moves, appearing on MTV’s “RapFix Live” earlier this year.
Early in her career, Tiffany Foxx has had the luxury of collaborating with many of hip hop’s biggest names. But, when she began creating her Goal Diggers mixtape, she went a different route. Despite being the backbone of society, women receive the least amount of respect, with many being called “gold diggers,” Miss Foxx flipped that phrase.
Instead, Tiffany Foxx is digging for her goals on Goal Diggers. Remaking many of hip hop’s most classic songs, along with delivering some originals, Tiffany Foxx delivered one of the best projects to come out all week. Hip Hop Vibe had the fortune of speaking with Tiffany Foxx about this Goal Diggers mixtape this afternoon.
Read the entire interview below:
How long have you been working on this mixtape? I have been working on Goal Diggers since the release of Yellow Tape.
Obviously a play on the phrase “gold digger,” what inspired the Goal Digger mixtape title? I wanted something personal to share with my Goaldigger fan base. I wanted them to be able to see how I’ve evolved and that I have the talent to make an album if I wanted to. I shared my growth with them.
Which songs off this project stick out the most to you? “Song Cry,” for very obvious reasons. It was personal and I felt like there were girls out there who’ve been through sexual abuse and needed to identify with a strong individual who didn’t let that define her. It happened to me and I’m past it.
What did you set out to accomplish with Goal Digger? Again, I just wanted to show my growth and my potential of putting a classic album together. I picked classics that identified with my personality and paid homage to them in a sense.
Did Lil’ Kim have much input on the creation of the project? No. Everything was created from my thoughts and from my personality and I think that’s why she supports me because I don’t need anyone to hold my hand.
What is it like to work so closely with her? It is indescribable. She’s a perfectionist and so am I. We have more of a personal relationship than business, so it’s always a great moment when we’re together. We’re so silly.
Can you explain why you chose the classics you did for the mixtape? Again, I just wanted to show people some of the songs that I fell in love with. Those are just a few of the songs that from the time they come on, they touch me in some form or fashion. So, I decided to pay homage in a sense.
Why did you choose to not have Lil’ Kim featured on the mixtape? I’ve done features with a lot of mainstream artists, but I just feel on this personal project, I wanted everyone to get to know Tiffany without all of the hype. I also wanted to prove to myself that I can complete an independent project on my own and also give a platform for those who are very talented and up and coming, like Aloha Misho, Bradd Young and Vega. Again, this is why Kim is confident with me. I like different challenges and I face them head on.
Out of all the songs on the tape, which do you feel will have the biggest impact? “Song Cry” for those who’ve been deprived of a father, “Kissing You” is a summer single, “On Set” a club banger,”Baby” because you see my vocal capability, “Renegade,” “Who Shot Ya,” man the whole mixtape!
Where can fans find you on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram? Facebook Tiffany Foxx; Twitter and Instagram: @tiffanyfoxx1. “Goaldiggers” can be downloaded on right here on Hip Hop Vibe, here.
