HHV Exclusive: Turk talks Rap-A-Lot Records deal, “Get Money Stay Real,” Cash Money Records, and more

Turk 6What’s interesting about Cash Money Records is how the label has lived four or five lives. Originally, it was a major local label and then the label had success on a mainstream level as a crew in the late 1990s. After a dark period, Lil Wayne carried the label with Young Money and now several imprints keep the label hot.

Turk initially came up with Lil Wayne during the late 1990s run, but his career went a different path. After spending the better part of a decade in prison, Turk came out hungry and he’s released several mixtapes. Currently, Turk is putting another one together.

Recently, Turk talked to Hip Hop Vibe, as he has a deal with Rap-A-Lot Records and he is working on Get Money Stay Real. He talked to Hip Hop Vibe about his new music and his new deal, but he wasn’t shy about the old days. Turk also spoke on his former Cash Money Records team and the Hot Boyz.

Can you talk about your new partnership with Rap-A-Lot Records? J Prince and I are real cool, man. It was only right for us two real niggas to partner up. We have a boss deal!

What project are you currently working on? I’m working on Get Money Stay Real, my new mixtape and it will be my fifth mixtape release since being freed from prison.

You recently did a track with Don Trip, how did you two come together for new music? Don Trip and I are like brothers, man. He always was a stand up guy with me. We met in 2003 when I was in the streets wildin’ and we did a few songs together. After this, I got lockdown, but when I came out he was doing his thing and we instantly got back to it.

A lot of your tracks have you working with Memphis-based artists; can you explain how this came about? I have great relationships with the city of Memphis and they show me love, so I show extra love back. Shout out to North, South, Haven, and Orange Mound.

What is your current relationship standing with Cash Money Records and will there ever be a Hot Boy reunion or anything close to it? Cash Money Records is STILL getting money and I’m BACK to the money. I would love a Hot Boyz reunion, but you know how shit go. We good though.
