A lot of cities with deep hip hop history still have yet to have their mainstream comebacks, but have strong, self-contained movements. In a lot of people’s eyes, the city of Oakland fell off the map, but in actuality, they have continued to have success. It is such names like legendary group, Hieroglyphics, keeping the city going.
More than a hip hop group, last year the Hieroglyphics partnered with several local businesses in Oakland for Hiero Day Festival last year. Seeing positive results last year led them to give it another try this year, as Hieroglyphics are partnering up with Linden Street Brewery.
Once again, the Hieroglyphics will shut the city of Oakland down from 11 am to 6 pm and takes place on September 2. Also performing at the Hiero Day Festival will be Souls of Mischief. Oakland mayor, Jean Quick, has declared the day of September 3 Hiero Day within the city.
