Houston named the dirtiest city in America by new study

Houston has topped the list of the dirtiest cities in America, according to a recent study by Lawn Starters, a lawn care service. The report highlights several factors contributing to Houston’s ranking. Those include pollution, living conditions, and infrastructure issues.

“Houston ranks third worst in greenhouse gas emissions from large industrial facilities,” the study notes.

Additionally, the city reportedly has the biggest cockroach problem in the nation. This is according to data from the Census Bureau.

The study also points out that Houston is the third most polluted city in the country. It’s largely due to violations of EPA safety guidelines by the city’s petrochemical facilities. Greater Houston was also found to have the second-worst air quality in the country based on an analysis of EPA data.

Other cities that made the top 10 dirtiest list include Newark, New Jersey; San Bernardino, California; Detroit, Michigan; Jersey City, New Jersey; Bakersfield, California; San Antonio, Texas; Fresno, California; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Yonkers, New York. Several other Texas cities made the top 50, including El Paso, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin, which ranked 56th.

Lawn Starter’s study evaluated data from 200 of the largest U.S. cities, focusing on pollution, living conditions, infrastructure, and consumer satisfaction. The analysts calculated weighted scores for each city across these categories to determine the final rankings.
