Irv Gotti talks “Tales” on BET, Def Jam, Murder Inc., trying to sign Nas during Jay-Z beef, Ruff Ryders, DMX, and more with Nick Cannon [VIDEO]

Nobody in hip hop has a history like Irv Gotti, who emerged during the era of the rap moguls. Not only did he give birth to the early careers of Jay-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule, he also produced countless hit records. Initially a Def Jam exec, he started Murder Inc. to more success.

Irv Gotti helped bring Jay-Z to Def Jam, in the historic joint venture, which led to him eventually running the label. In a cruel twist of fate, Irv ran into his FBI issues and Jay-Z’s Def Jam had to terminate their partnership. That was one hit in a string of many, with 50 Cent leading.

Currently, Irv Gotti is on the upswing in his career, with “Tales” being one of BET’s most successful shows. It was courtesy of Jay-Z that he got that deal, which he shared with Nick Cannon on “Cannon’s Class.” In that conversation, he spoke on trying to sign Nas, during the beef, his show, Murder Inc.’s history, Jay-Z and DMX, and more.
