In 2010, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar were nothing more than glorified indie artists with cult fan bases. Quite a bit changed since then, as both enjoyed moments in 2011, 2012, and 2013 as the biggest rapper in the game. Now, they are famous artists with cult fan bases.
During their original cult fan days, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar collaborated often. Before the major label deals and backing from Jay Z and Dr. Dre, respectively, the two promised a joint album. But, label politics and the streaming wars made this seem impossible.
After all of these years, now it looks like the J. Cole/Kendrick Lamar album is actually coming. Rumor has it, the album is set for release in a little over a month, February to be exact. With the album due, several potential album covers, like the one above, have begun flooding Instagram.
