For years, the hip hop world and particularly the North Carolina hip hop fans, waited for the first J. Cole album to come. Instead, Cole World took close to one year to finally come together. Waiting so long for his debut, J. Cole decided to jump right back in with his sophomore album.

Born Sinner was announced late in 2012 and set for a January 28 release date. A number of rappers lined up January releases. A$AP Rocky and Joe Budden were the other prominent rappers set to drop in January. Only one held January down in A$AP Rocky, meanwhile Joe Budden dropped in February.

Recently, J. Cole talked to MTV News about his goal of releasing his sophomore album on his birthday. Almost as unlikely as Born Sinner coming in 2012 was J. Cole getting it out by January. J. Cole talked to MTV News about the album release dates and he admitted he was being a bit ambitious.
