Ja Morant suspended 25 games after recent Instagram gun incident
On Friday, Ja Morant finally learned his fate, in regards to if he’d be facing a lengthy suspension from the NBA. This is in regards to showing a gun on Instagram Live for the second time since March, last month. Morant’s friend was streaming the live, as Morant was seen in the front passenger seat, randomly holding the weapon.
As a result, Morant went on to be suspended from all Memphis Grizzlies’ team activities indefinitely. This month, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver added that the league uncovered new information, and that a decision would be made after the NBA Finals concluded. Therefore, Morant has now been suspended for 25 games.
“Ja Morant’s decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games,” said Silver. “The potential for other young people to emulate Ja’s conduct is particularly concerning. Under these circumstances, we believe a suspension of 25 games is appropriate and makes clear that engaging in reckless and irresponsible behavior with guns will not be tolerated.”
Morant will also have to fulfill certain conditions before his return, as well. These include a program that directly “addresses the circumstances that led him to repeat this destructive behavior.”
Morant has also since released a statement, acknowledging this latest massive mistake. He emphasized that he will become a better person, during this time away.
