Perhaps more hip hop than a lot of the things dominating hip hop headlines was the mob drama, “The Sopranos.” From 1999 through 2007, HBO showcased the life of a New Jersey mob boss, Tony Soprano. Inheriting “the business” from his father and working alongside and against his uncle, Tony Soprano was a ruthless man.
Tony Soprano was portrayed by James Gandolfini, who became a star on the strength of his iconic role. Many were disappointed with the ending of “The Sopranos,” in which the screen simply faded to black. But, there were eight years worth of memories of the series in which Gandolfini ruled with an iron fist as Tony Soprano.
Some fans have hoped for a sequel, of sorts, to the series. Unfortunately, this will not be happening. This afternoon, New Jersey bred James Gandolfini was in Italy, where he suffered a fatal heart attack. Sources close to the actor say everyone is in tears following his massive heart attack, according to the New York Daily News.
