Jay Ellis shares excitement and fears for baby #2 in new memoir
Jay Ellis is opening up about his journey to becoming a parent for the second time. Speaking at a pre-publication event for his new memoir, Did Everyone Have an Imaginary Friend (or Just Me?), the Top Gun: Maverick actor revealed his mixed emotions about welcoming another child with his wife, Nina Senicar.
Jay Ellis’ Fears of Having a Second Child
“I’m terrified,” Ellis admits. “One kid was crazy. Two kids, come on, man. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m very excited. I think two is enough. It’s where it ends… I think I finally achieved some version of calm in my house and now it’s about to be chaos all over again.”
Ellis and Senicar, who are already parents to 4-year-old daughter Nora Grace, announced they were expecting their second child in a March 2 Instagram post. “And just like that… Baby Nr. 2 loading! ❤️,” Senicar wrote.
Jay Ellis Embracing Having a Second Child
Despite his fears, Ellis is ready to embrace the chaos that comes with parenthood. “What is life if we’re not experiencing chaos and figuring out how to navigate it?” he says. “I get the opportunity to bring another kid into the world and hopefully do something good, do some good, leave them with something good.”
Ellis and Senicar have been together for over five years, getting engaged during a trip to Bali in January 2019 and tying the knot on July 9, 2022, after postponing their wedding twice due to the coronavirus pandemic. Senicar recently showcased her baby bump at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, accompanied by Ellis.
Jay Ellis’ Memoir
In his memoir, Ellis reflects on his experiences growing up in a military family in the ‘90s and his bond with his childhood imaginary friend, Mikey. He shares that writing the book was a challenging but enlightening process.
“I think there’s a vulnerability thing, too, that I didn’t clock,” he told PEOPLE. “I was going to have to open up in a way where it was me opening up versus me performing a character who’s opening up.”
Ellis adds that the process helped him better understand the influences that shaped who he is today.
“There’s so many little things that make us who we are,” he says. “I don’t think I really realized how much so many things influenced who I am today until I wrote the book.”
Ellis’ memoir, Did Everyone Have an Imaginary Friend (or Just Me?), is set to be published on July 30.
