Jay-Z is not platinum off “Magna Carta Holy Grail” pre-sales to Samsung

Starting the year off with a bang, Jay-Z appeared alongside Justin Timberlake on his breakout single, “Suit & Tie.” Dominating the radio throughout the winter and the spring, the song only recently died down. Since then, Jay-Z has been in the headlined about his new music.

Recently, Jay-Z announced he had a new album only days away from being released. His first solo album since 2009, Jay-Z partnered with Samsung for the release of his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail. Already, Samsung has ordered 1 million copies at $5 apiece for their mobile phones, which Jay-Z counted as already being platinum.

On Twitter, Jay-Z said he doubts if the RIAA would certify the album as platinum. Spot on with his prediction, the RIAA addressed Magna Carta Holy Grail. According to a representative for Soundscan, even if the sales did qualify, Jay-Z would not be platinum because there is a 30-day waiting period.
