In the ever-evolving landscape of music, some collaborations turn into life-long friendships. One such transformative partnership emerged when Toronto’s rising star Jessie Reyez, crossed paths with Chicago’s own King Louie. Their unexpected connection altered the course of Reyez’s life, leading her to stardom.
The Colombian singer and songwriter is creating an incredible legacy for herself. Shortly after meeting King Louie, the duo released the single “Living in The Sky”. She followed up with the 2016 single “Figures”, which went on to reach triple platinum certification. Her 2017 EP Kiddo, was released under FMLY and Republic Records. Jessie has also found success with collaborations from Big Sean, Kehlani, Calvin Harris , Dua Lipa, Normani, Eminem and more. Her 2020 debut album Before Love Came to Kill Us also saw commercial success, debuting at number thirteen on the Billboard 100.
Despite all of her success, Jessie never forget’s those who helped her along the way. Jessie met King Louie through “The Remix Project“, an artist development program for low-income students. It was through this program, the two developed a life long friendship. Jessie Reyez spoke with WGCI on the opportunities that came her way shortly after meeting King Louie.
