Joe Bryant speaks out for first time since Kobe and Gigi’s passing

Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, along with his wife Elaine, addressed the public for the first time since the tragic loss of their son, basketball legend Kobe Bryant, and granddaughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant. The speech was delivered during a commemorative session hosted by the Association of Basketball Information Services (ABIS). This speech was actually given two years ago, but not released until a month ago.

During their poignant address, Joe Bryant shared reflections on the profound values that Kobe embodied both on and off the basketball court, which he had also instilled in Gigi. His wife, Elaine Bryant, stood by his side. Meanwhile, the elder Bryant was highlighting the enduring impact of their son and granddaughter on their lives. Also, their impact on the broader community of basketball fans and players.

The ABIS had kept the footage private for two years, releasing it only recently. “We held back this footage to respect the family’s grief and to ensure that the public reception would honor Kobe and Gigi’s memory appropriately,” an ABIS spokesperson explained during the release. As a result, it’s now being shown for the first time.

The unveiling of the video has since sparked a renewed wave of tributes to Kobe and Gigi. Their lives were tragically cut short in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
