Joel Embiid happens to be dating a white woman, nothing wrong with that. But, the stereotype of professional athletes is that they often date and marry outside their race. Not every athlete is guilty of this, though, and that’s not saying it’s a crime if they do this.
However, Joel Embiid got into a lot of trouble over one comment. He made a Valentine’s Day post to his longtime girlfriend, who he is hoping to make his wife. As he let that be known, he thanked her for putting up with his “crazy African ass,” which led to people, most of them black men, dragging him in his own comments.
