A lot of kids, from this generation, surprisingly know who John Amos is, likely due to TV One. But, long before the TV One network even existed, UPN aired “Good Times” reruns. Watching the series, things changed, halfway the show, when Amos left and his character died.
Nas touched on this on his “Can’t Forget About You” single. On the song, he raps “good times left right after James died.” Truly, a lot with the show changed, once John Amos left the show, and that part of the series never returned.
However, John Amos definitely kept a high profile, showing up on shows ranging from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” to “Two and a Half Men.” Of course, Sway has John Amos on “Sway In The Morning,” where he spoke on all of this. He broke down what happened on “Good Times,” leading to him leaving the show.
