In the mid-1970s, “Good Times” gave the world a glimpse of inner city life. The show provided a strong contrast to the wealth shown on “The Jeffersons.” Still, both shows were driving home the same message. That is only right, seeing how the shows had the same creator.

“Good Times” has lived on through reruns, which have aired almost daily, for the past twenty years. During the original run, “Good Times” had some characters that became iconic. While Jimmie Walker, who played JJ, is definitely the face of the show, other characters got shine, too.

Nathan Bookman, better known as Bookman, was played by Johnny Brown. Through most of the show’s run, Brown’s Bookman was one of the primary antagonists. Playing the mean landlord, Bookman eventually became a friend to “Good Times'” Evans family. Johnny Brown would go on to have guest appearances on such 90s sitcoms as “Martin” and “Sister, Sister.” However, Johnny Brown has kept a low profile, outside of reunion interviews. Recently, Johnny Brown’s daughter took to social media to reveal the actor died at 84 years old.
