Juice Wrld passed away on December 8 and it has been one of the most tragic stories in hip-hop this year. He passed away after having a seizure after arriving at Chicago’s Midway Airport. Police say he supposedly overdosed on percocet pills to avoid getting caught with them. They also seized 70 pounds of weed in his luggage along with three guns which belonged to his entourage. His girlfriend, Alexia Smith, said he took three percs per day and dealt with depression.
Juice’s 2018 breakout hit single, ‘Lucid Dreams,’ hit the top of the charts on Apple Music and Spotify this week and officially became the most streamed artist in the country. According to Rolling Stone, the Chicago artist’s on-demand audio streams soared 487% on Sunday to over 38.2 million. This is also 24 million more than any artist. Four of Juice’s songs also occupy top 10 songs on Apple Music and Spotify.
Lucid Dreams, “Legends,” “Robbery,” and “All Girls Are The Same” are the tracks that have been making the most noise on these streaming platforms. On that the day of his passing, Lucid Dreams had 4.4 million on-demand audio streams and 3,000 digital downloads. Juice also occupied the top two albums with his “Goodbye & Good Riddance” and “Death Race for Love” projects. As of now, there is still no official cause of death as to what led to the seizure. The autopsy still needs to be completed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
