Jussie Smollett confirms #Empire departure? Or is he playing along to not giveaway the story?

Jussie Smollett Jamal shot

A truly good show is willing to do anything for the sake of the story. Way back when, this was the case when “Knots Landing” killed off Sid early in the show’s run. At the time, Sid was the main character and “Power” ended season two by killing off Kanan (50 Cent).

On “Empire,” the show continued to dominate in the ratings, but fans were beginning to criticize Lee Daniels’ creation. Many felt the story was sacrificed for the sake of celebrity cameos. This was evidenced when the gay Jamal (Jussie Smollett) slept with Skye (Alicia Keys).

When “Empire” returned for the spring season, Jamal got back to his gay roots, setting the stage for another Lucious (Terrence Howard) fight. Last night, those tensions came to a head and Lucious wished death on his son. Jamal stepping in the way of Freda’s (Bre-Z) shot at Lucious brought him closer to death and Jussie Smollett took to Twitter with a tweet confirming his “Empire” exit, but is it real, or just for him to protect the story?
