Jussie Smollett placed in psych ward of jail
Last week, Jussie Smollett was finally sentenced, for his 2019 case of lying to police in Chicago. This was regarding the situation where he staged his own hate crime, to make it seem that he was targeted for being Black and gay. Smollett hired the Osundario brothers to assist in this, in making it seem that the “Empire” actor was targeted by Donald Trump supporters.
Smollett went on to be sentenced to 30 months of felony probation. This also includes 150 days in jail. Therefore, Smollett was also ordered to pay $120,106 restitution to the city of Chicago, as well as the maximum $25,000 fine. He was convicted in December, of five counts of lying to police.
Smollett is doing his time at the Cook County Jail, in Chicago. According to TMZ, he has also been placed in the psych ward, of this jail. This is due to him reportedly being at risk of “self-harm.” This comes after Smollett said after his sentencing, that he isn’t suicidal.
But, Jussie’s brother, Joqui, has since shut down the narrative that he is at risk of self-harm. He explained this, on Instagram feed.
“So Jussie is currently in a psych ward at the Cook County Jail. What’s very concerning is that there was a note attached to his paperwork today saying that he’s at risk of self-harm. I want to make it clear that he is in no way, shape, or form at risk of self-harm. He wants to let folks know that he is very stable, he is very strong, he is very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that… has been put up against him. This is not right. This is complete lack of justice. So please, make sure you all spreading facts. We really need our people to support us.”
According to TMZ, a law enforcement official at the jail went on to reveal that Jussie is in this psych ward, due to it being an area where high-profile inmates are located. Having Jussie in a separate area of the jail makes sense, but, it does however spread a false narrative, of him being put in an actual psych ward, of the facility.
