Kanye West’s abandoned $2.2M Calabasas ranch is in ruins
Kanye West’s once-glamorous ranch in Calabasas, California, now lies in utter disrepair. Recent aerial photos taken on Monday reveal the damage. The 320-acre property was purchased in 2018 for $2.2 million. However, it appears completely abandoned and derelict. Thus, highlighting a stark contrast to its former glory as a hub for West’s Sunday Service gatherings and the Donda Academy headquarters.
Images of The Property
The shocking images show significant damage to the property, including a massive hole at the front entrance, with debris and roof fragments scattered on the ground. Trees and foliage have begun to grow through the crevices of the partially collapsed roof and front entrance of the main house. The estate, which features a four-bedroom main house and two guesthouses. Originally, it boasted a total of six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
Kanye’s Original Plans for the Property
Kanye expanded the property by acquiring an additional 300 acres surrounding the ranch for $4 million. As a result, bringing the total investment to approximately $6 million for a combined 318 acres. Despite its potential, the ranch now stands as a neglected remnant of Kanye’s ambitious dreams.
One of the most notable aspects of the ranch was the cluster of domed structures. It was part of West’s Yeezy Home project launched in 2018. Inspired by the fictional Star Wars planet Tatooine, the domes were meant to be prefabricated housing for the homeless. In addition, he had plans to build entire cities of these innovative pods. However, in 2019, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works ordered the demolition of these domes due to the lack of proper permits. Also, there were complaints from neighbors about the continuous noisy construction.
What Kanye Did With the Property
Following his divorce filing in 2021, Kanye converted the ranch into a bachelor pad. Briefly, he lived there with then-girlfriend Irina Shayk. To maintain privacy, he covered the property’s perimeter with white tarpaulin. Currently, Kanye spends much of his time traveling with his current wife, Bianca Censori. When in the U.S., they reportedly rent a luxury penthouse in West Hollywood for $20,000 a month.
As Kanye continues his globe-trotting lifestyle, the abandoned ranch remains a poignant symbol of both his once expansive visions and the projects left behind in their wake.
