All the hype and projections in the world could not prepare the world for the underwhelming release that was Yeezus. In the winter and spring months, Kanye West dominated the headlines with his relationship with Kim Kardashian. But, for some reason, the news stories about the music did not match up.
Initially, J. Cole was slated to face off against Wale on June 25, but he pushed his date up when Kanye West settled in for June 18. Up one week, J. Cole admitted he did this on purpose to not be overshadowed by Kanye West. Expected to lose, J. Cole showed up closer than anticipated.
J. Cole is leading the sales battle with Kanye West, having certified gold weeks ago. But, sales have also continued to pour in for Kanye West. With 497,000 copies sold, thus far, and over 500,000 shipped, the RIAA has decided to go ahead and give Yeezus a gold certification.
