Kanye West prepares Fifth Studio Album

Initially, Kanye West was planning to release his fifth album in June of 2009. He had announced this only weeks after the release of his R&B-inspired album, 808s & Heartbreak. For his follow-up, West stated that the album would definitely be a return to rap music. Like his mentor, Jay-Z, he had planned to begin working on the album in the fall and have it ready before Thanksgiving.

However, the fall, right before Kanye West was to go into the studio and begin seriously recording for the album, got off to a very rocky start. Before he began recording for this new album, Kanye decided to attend the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Jay-Z was going to perform his future chart-topper, “Empire State of Mind,” and Beyonce was up for an award for the Best Female Video.

Everything was going the way that Kanye West felt things should have early on. The only problem was Lil’ Mama going on stage while Jay-Z was still performing his set. But, when it was time to find out who the winner for Best Female Video was, many were expecting Beyonce to win with “Single Ladies.” She did not, instead newcomer Taylor Swift would wind up winning the award. People watching at home were all thinking the same thing.

Once Taylor Swift went up to accept the award, Kanye West robbed her of the microphone to say that Beyonce was more deserving of the award. From that point on, Kanye has been a media scapegoat. He has been dogged by the media worse than the congressman who called the president a liar. Because of the backlash and his harsh feelings at the time, West decided to wait on recording his new album.

Before the end of 2009, the heat was finally off of Kanye West and he began recording this new album. It has been rumored for some time that the album was going to be a return to rap. Now, it has finally been confirmed. Through his website, Kanye West announced his return to the music scene. He is said to have the best music that he can currently offer. West will deliver this new album sometime before the end of 2010.
