A lot of what hip hop lost was restored in Kendrick Lamar. Back in the 1990s, considered by most to be the golden era of hip hop, there were classic debut albums. During this time, the world first discovered Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, AZ, and many others. In the years since then, there have been few classic albums, let alone debuts.
Kendrick Lamar, however, showed a classic album could still be made in 2012 with good kid, m.A.A.d. city. His debut album showed his range as an artist and featured nothing but hits. Radio is currently soaking up his “Poetic Justice” single with Drake, for which the music video just came.
Recently, Kendrick Lamar had another reason to celebrate. Missing out on getting Janet Jackson for the “Poetic Justice” video, Kendrick Lamar has yet another gold plaque on the way. Earlier today, the RIAA confirmed Kendrick Lamar’s “Poetic Justice” had been certified gold.
