Comparable to New York City, there is new energy in Los Angeles where hip hop is concerned. On the East Coast, the credit is given to French Montana, but on the West Coast, Kendrick Lamar is credited for the revival. Kendrick Lamar caught the attention of several of the legendary artists on the West Coast, including Game, which led to working with Dr. Dre.

Kendrick Lamar’s work with Dr. Dre led to him signing with Aftermath Entertainment, which led to an even bigger deal for his initial label, Top Dawg, with Interscope. Signing with Aftermath has been beneficial for Kendrick Lamar, as he has met Eminem. Most importantly, he has the opportunity to showcase his talent, working with Dr. Dre on good kid, m.A.A.d. city.

With his album due in two months, Kendrick Lamar spoke to Montreality during his last visit North of the border. During the interview, Kendrick Lamar discussed the advice he has received from Dr. Dre, meeting Eminem, his biggest fears, and a number of other topics.
