“To be the best, you challenge the best” is what Nas once rapped. Five years later, MTV took him at his word. Hip hop is at an odd place, growing rapidly, yet still moving in various directions. At one end of the spectrum, hip hop is friendlier than ever, but on the other side, things are very hostile.
Kendrick Lamar represents the friendly side, but he is still a force to be reckoned with, as he is considered one of the best rappers to come out in years. Releasing a critically-acclaimed album in good kid, m.A.A.d. city, Kendrick Lamar sparked a feud. Former friends, Game and Shyne, are now at each other’s throats.
Sway Calloway has come under much heat for the latest “Hottest MCs in the Game,” as rappers have complained about their positions. Kendrick Lamar agrees with the complaints, but loves the concept. As he told Rap-Up.com, Kendrick Lamar loves this countdown because it brings back to competitive nature in hip hop.
