Outside of pissing off almost every rapper in the game on Big Sean’s “Control,” there was a lot of momentum behind Kendrick Lamar. Before this, Kendrick Lamar spoke on the possibility of him releasing his sophomore album. Technically his third studio album, fans were waiting on this album.

With all the controversy blown over, Kendrick Lamar has more new music he wants to work on. Early on, Kendrick Lamar made it clear he did not want to over saturate the game with his music. Now giving the game a break, Kendrick Lamar is readying his return to the game.

Flavor Flav recently made comments about Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and others “not being hip hop.” Kendrick Lamar responded to this during an interview in Chicago during the Lollapalooza Festival. He spoke on that and also his desires to work with Drake on his next album.

Read excerpts from Kendrick Lamar’s interview below:

In a recent interview, Flavor Flav said that you and others like Drake are making great records, but they’re rap records, not hip-hop records. In your opinion, is there a difference between the two?

Lamar: Between rap and hip-hop? I wouldn’t know. I guess that was his opinion and to have somebody clarify it, you would have to talk to him and have him break it down, hip-hop and how it differs from rap. I feel like I got great hip-hop records. (Laughs.) But yeah, that was his opinion and I’m sure he was stating his opinion. That’s Flavor Flav. He’s OG. You know, utmost respect.

Your two studio albums, 2011’s Section.80 & good kid, m.A.A.d city, were concept records. Are the songs you’ve written keeping with that same trend?

Lamar: I don’t know. I’d like to do something new, something a little bit different every album. When I get back in [the studio], I think I’ll figure it out. But most likely, I wont’ stray away too far.
