LaMelo Ball arrived on the Charlotte Hornets roster in 2020. This was an abnormal time in Hornets’ history, the NBA, and in the world. Because of the restrictions, the NBA season ended in October. Due to trying to get back to normal, the following season began in December. As a result, the draft was in November. For once, the Hornets had a top three pick and landed LaMelo Ball.

LaMelo Ball is the most hyped of all of the Ball brothers. For a very long time, LaVar Ball has said LaMelo is his most talented son. In addition, Ball, Sr. said LaMelo would become the NBA’s best player. The 2021 and 2022 seasons saw the Charlotte Hornets make noise. In 2022, Miles Bridges emerged as a solid number two alongside LaMelo. As a result, they produced the Hornets’ first winning season since 2016. However, the squad was a four seed until injuries set in, leading to them falling into the Play-In, where they lost to the Atlanta Hawks.

LaMelo Ball was expected to make a jump, this season. The Hornets got rid of their coach, James Borrego, initially hiring the Golden State Warriors’ top assistant, Kenny Atkinson. However, Atkinson backed out. After that, the Hornets angered their fan base when they rehired Steve Clifford, as opposed to hiring Mike D’Antoni as their coach. After all, D’Antoni turned Steve Nash and James Harden into MVPs. Many felt LaMelo was next. Though it is just the preseason, Ball and Steve Clifford seem to get along well. However, none of that mattered, as the Hornets lost to the Washington Wizards, losing Ball in the process, to an ankle injury.
