Not since their early NBA days have the Indiana Pacers ever been a “bad” team. Since then, they have at least managed to be a 30 win team in the playoff hunt. But, the grim reality is that the team has not won a championship in the 41 years since joining the league.
Larry Bird has been prominent in the Pacers’ history over the past twenty, plus, years. Along with being the president of the team, Bird has varied being the coach, at times. In fact, Bird coached the team to their lone NBA Finals appearance.
Now, Larry Bird is saying his time with the Indiana Pacers is over. This afternoon, he held a press conference, where he explained he was leaving the team. The Pacers went 41-41 and were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.
