LeBron James becomes the NBA’s all-time leading scorer
LeBron James has made the kind of history no one can take from him. For a man who has been compared to Michael Jordan his entire career, James broke the NBA’s biggest record. Entering tonight’s game, vs. the Thunder, LeBron needed 36 points to break the record. Halfway through the third quarter, LeBron did just that. Entering tonight’s game, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a Lakers’ great, held the record. He watched as LeBron broke it.
LeBron James was always a freak of nature, but his career was not without struggle. Since 2006, James has consistently been the NBA’s best player. However, as his Cleveland Cavaliers struggled, Kobe Bryant was scoring 81 points in a game. Dwyane Wade was also making history, leading the Miami Heat to their first ever title. Meanwhile, LeBron just kept showing himself to be the best overall player in the game. He spurned the Jordan comparisons, joining Wade’s Heat, later returning to Cleveland.
LeBron James shook off the pressure of not winning a championship. Not only does he have four titles, he has won a title in every city he’s played for. Despite the Lakers’ struggles, James led them to the 2020 championship. This season has been another struggle. Even this game has been a struggle. However, LeBron paused all of that, for just a moment. Entering tonight needing 36 points to break the record, he did that. Now, LeBron James holds the position as the NBA’s all-time individual scoring leader.
