This season, the Los Angeles Lakers have been an absolute train wreck. Normally, LeBron James is lauded for how he constructs his super-teams, but this one is a failure. The same was said for his 2015 Cleveland Cavaliers, but they managed to turn it around, by this point.
Because the West is unusually weak, this year, the Lakers are still holding onto a playoff spot. Projections had them contending for a title, as they reassembled much of their 2020 title team. They rounded the roster out with former franchise players and MVPs, Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook.
While LeBron James managed finally becoming teammates with Carmelo Anthony, they have very little to show for it. In the West, the Golden State Warriors have returned to form, while the Phoenix Suns are running away with the NBA’s best records. The Lakers, meanwhile, have struggled since their 21-7 start to last season. They ended last season, having to compete in the play-in, defeating the Warriors, in turn to lose in the first round to the Suns.
Despite the Lakers’ struggles, LeBron James continues to be one of the NBA’s best players. He is playing in his nineteenth season and he is creeping up on the All-Time Scoring List. At this point, LeBron has been among the league’s best players for three generations. Throughout his career, he’s remained one of the most-popular players. He has charted his own legacy, becoming known for his eight consecutive NBA Finals appearances, ten overall. LeBron can add to that having the NBA’s highest-selling jersey, this season.
