LeBron James hints at retirement after being swept by Nuggets
LeBron James showed clear signs of frustration, during this series with the Denver Nuggets. With the Lakers only going 42-40, them making the postseason was a miracle. For them to make it all the way to the Western Conference Finals was nothing short of astounding. In the end, the Nuggets were the far better team. As a result, they swept the Lakers en route to the NBA Finals. After the game, LeBron James did the postgame conference, and had interesting words about the end of his career.
LeBron James has had the longest prime in NBA history. By his third season, LeBron was widely regarded as the best player in the NBA. That said, he single-handedly carried the Cavaliers to the 2007 NBA Finals. In 2008, he had an MVP-caliber season that was overlooked, due to Kobe Bryant’s heroics with the Lakers that same year. By 2009, LeBron won his first MVP award, which came after single-handedly carrying the Cavaliers to a franchise record 66-win season.
LeBron James has not had the same kinds of success with the Lakers. It took a trade for Anthony Davis just to make the playoffs. However, they won the championship that same year. After that, injuries cost them a 2021 title. In 2022, they missed the playoffs entirely. Despite being a lower seed, LeBron’s Lakers made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. However, all it was was an appearance, as Denver swept them. After Game 4, LeBron essentially said he may have also played his last game.
