LeBron James spent his entire career defying the odds. Just him going from being a kid in Akron to being on the Cleveland Cavaliers was doing the impossible. By the time LeBron got prepared for the NBA Draft, it was clear he was a great player. However, being great is never a guarantee that a player will actually succeed. With LeBron, he has done many amazing things. But when his Lakers were swept by the Denver Nuggets, he hinted at retiring. At the ESPYs, LeBron said that’s not the case.

LeBron James was drafted by his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers. When he joined the Cavs, they were one of the NBA’s worst teams. Within four years, LeBron had Cleveland in the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history. Later in his career, James joined the Miami Heat. There, he would win two championships. A return to Cleveland saw an upset title win over the Golden State Warriors. Since 2018, he’s played for the Lakers and he led them to the 2020 title.

LeBron James is a four-time NBA champion and he almost won his fifth this year. However, his Lakers’ Cinderella run ended when the Denver Nuggets swept them in the Western Conference Finals. After that, during the postgame press conference, LeBron hinted at retirement. Those close to LeBron told the media to not read much into it. Last night, during the ESPYs, LeBron delivered a speech that cleared things up. He said he would no longer play when he could no longer contribute to the game, but he can still contribute, so he’ll stay.
