Early in her career, Lil Mama received a co-sign from Lil’ Kim and she appeared to be the leader of a female renaissance in hip hop. This ended up not being the case and, instead, a lot of backlash was thrown in the direction of Lil Mama. It got much worse when she interrupted Jay-Z’s performance at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
More backlash came when Lil Mama focused her energy on dissing Nicki Minaj instead of her own music. Regardless of her pure intentions, Lil Mama came off as jealous of the success Nicki Minaj has had. In any event, Lil Mama is finally getting her time to shine, playing the role of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in the VH1 biopic for TLC.
Lil Mama continues to receive good news, as T-Boz and Chilli have co-signed her portrayal as Left Eye. They support her role so much that they want Lil Mama to perform with them. This weekend, TLC will be performing with Lil Mama at the Mixtape Music Festival and their solo album is due on October 15.
