Nobody has ever played with the rap game the way that Lil Nas X did in 2021. Two years prior, Lil Nas X was the phenomenon who took rap over. His single, “Old Town Road,” topped country charts but then it was removed. To help him out, Billy Ray Cyrus jumped on the remix, and then “Old Town Road” topped Billboard.

During the “Old Town Road” promo run, Lil Nas X was outed by people on Twitter. Instead of denying it, Lil Nas X said that it was indeed him. Lil Nas X embraced his truth and still dominated the charts. Last year, he turned up heavy with his identity, which led to an inadvertent feud with Boosie, among other trolling.

Not long after the Boosie controversy, Lil Nas X faded from the scene. In August, during the promo run for his album, Lil Nas X claimed he was pregnant. The trolling was at an all time high, as Lil Nas X even named Elton John as his baby’s godfather. All of this was for a commercial for UberEats, which Lil Nas X and Elton John were cast to promote. This week, Lil Nas X announced his return to music, and he took to Twitter explaining his absence as maternity leave.
