Lil Nas X’s 2019 Breakout Single, “Old Town Road,” Featuring Billy Cyrus, Goes 15x Platinum, and is Still The Highest Certified Track, in RIAA History

Lil Nas X is still one of the hottest artists in the world right now, after releasing his long-awaited debut studio album, “Montero,” last week. This project contained 15 tracks, which included the hits “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” “Industry Baby” ft. Jack Harlow, and “Sun Goes Down.” Additional appearances included Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, and Elton John. Montero is expected to debut at number two, on the Billboard 200 chart.

Many also remember spring 2019, the time when Nas X turned into a superstar. That happened after the massive success of his “Old Town Road” remix, featuring country legend, Billy Ray Cyrus. That skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and to this date, has been the highest certified track, in RIAA history.

This record is still held by Old Town Road, as it is now 15x platinum in the US, according to Chart Data. This is after selling 15 million units. Many still view this as Nas X’s most popular song to date. This was his first number one single of his career, and scored his second No. 1 this spring, with the “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” single.
