The first month of 2012 was missing Lil Wayne, but it was difficult to notice with Rick Ross’ release of his high-downloaded Rich Forever mixtape. While Lil Wayne has been out of the spotlight, Drake managed to make waves, dissing Common on Ross’ “Stay Schemin'” single. Common would play a bigger role, when he dissed Drake on his own remix to the song.

In the midst of the feud between Common and Drake, which ended on Grammy night, hip hop media has focused on French Montana. For years, the New York hip hop scene has lacked a star to return them to prominence. It seems all of the hip hop websites can agree French Montana, the latest Bad Boy signee, is the man to bring New York back to prominence.

However, Lil Wayne has been the biggest name in hip hop since 2007. Over the weekend, Lil Wayne returned when he announced the signing of Christina Milian to Young Money. While announcing yet another artist joining his fold, Lil Wayne took time to diss Jay-Z. However, Lil Wayne has been forced, along with the rest of the hip hop world, to take a back seat, as the Whitney Houston story continues to unfold.

But, with the Whitney Houston story winding down, hip hop is returning to the forefront on hip hop sites. Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and several rappers released love-themed songs. Many other rappers expressed love to the women in their lives. Too $hort landed himself in hot water, with his advice to the “players out there.” Lil Wayne though, had a touching story, as he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Dhea, who accepted.
