These rappers be acting up, but these companies are no longer allowing it. Before corporations picked up on hip hop, it was an “anything goes” type of artform. But, with so many companies involved, hip hop has become censored. Despite the censorship, hip hop remains uncensored and rappers have crossed the line.

Lil Wayne pulled off several offenses in a short period of time, disrespecting Emmett Till on Future’s “Karate Chop” remix and going after the Miami Heat. Rick Ross later lost his deal with Reebok after his “U.O.E.N.O.” line. Emmett Till’s family wished Lil Wayne better health, but still went after his sponsors, forcing an apology out of him.

Too little, too late, however, as Pepsi has ended the DEWeezy campaign. After pulling the commercial with Tyler, the Creator, Mountain Dew has ended Lil Wayne’s run altogether because of his controversy. Months after the Emmett Till debacle, Pepsi has cut ties with the Young Money leader.
