Lil Wayne took his mixtape game back to the pros in 2008. Through his mixtape releases and features on mainstream songs, Lil Wayne became the most-popular rapper in the game. A moderately-popular rapper, Lil Wayne was not considered a platinum rapper. This all changed when he finally released Tha Carter III.

In the months leading up to Tha Carter III, fans waited for the first official single to be released. Late in the winter of 2008, Lil Wayne released his summer anthem, “Lollipop,” which would become his first single to top the Billboard Hot 100. The success of “Lollipop” started a mainstream run which ended with Tha Carter III going triple platinum.

Along the way, the success of Tha Carter III led to some disagreements. Many producers on the album claimed they were never properly paid for their work on the album. Bangladesh, the producer of the second single, “A Milli,” ended up taking the entire Cash Money Records to court, eventually settling. After settling with Cash Money Records, Bangladesh signed a deal with the label. When asked why he did a deal with the label who shorted him, Bangladesh said he has inspired people to get their money from YMCMB.

TMZ recently reported that Deezle, one of the producers of “Lollipop” reached a settlement with Cash Money Records after filing a $20 million suit over “Lollipop.”
